Common Milkweed | Native Wildflower Seeds
Sustainably hand-harvested Asclepias syriaca seeds. Monarch caterpillar host plant and nectar source for bees, butterflies, moths and beetles. The big pom-pom shaped flower heads have a pleasant smell and the unripe seed pods are edible. Can grow in many soil types but needs a lot of sunlight. Blooms June-August. Perennial.
Milkweed seeds require a month of cold, moist stratification before germination. This can be done naturally by leaving the seeds outside all winter, or artificially by refrigerating them in a moist paper towel until they sprout. Transfer the seeds to soil as soon as they sprout.
Important host plant for monarch butterfly caterpillars and also hosts many other interesting insects such as milkweed bugs and milkweed beetles. These bugs, as well as oleander aphids, may hoard your plants in large numbers, but will not kill the plant. To prevent unwanted cosmetic damage by oleander aphids, they can be sprayed off the plants with water.
Each packet contains approximately 150 seeds.
