A professional ecological landscape consultant will evaluate the conditions of your property, discuss recommendations, and provide a garden design plan that maximizes both your enjoyment as well as its champion participation in the local ecosystem. We are currently only serving Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and Indiana residents and businesses.
Base consultation breakdown:
- One hour property visit to note soil type and moisture, rainwater problem areas, sunlight and shade spots, and existing flora.
- One to two hour collaborative meeting with customer regarding their goals for garden plan.
- Four hours to prepare a custom tailored ecological report that includes a description of your ecoregion, local laws governing pertinent yard maintenance practices, garden design sketches, list of recommended plant species, cost estimate breakdown, and recommendations for any problem areas. Provided within 1-3 business days of the property visit.
Once your garden design is final, see our Native Landscape Installation listing for pricing on implementing your dream garden!
For complicated designs that require more time, an additional $50/hour fee will be applied after the first 6 hours.
How this consultation differs from traditional landscape design:
- All new plants in garden plan will be native species to your region.
- Considerations like wildlife habitat/nest materials, flowers that feed specialist native bees, host plants for butterflies, and berries that provide winter feed for birds contribute to plant selection.
- Plants will be chosen that provide interest year-round so your yard never looks completely dead.
- Themes such as: wild food forest, pollinator buffet, monarch butterfly nursery, bird paradise, deer resistant, and low maintenance can be chosen based on interest.
- Eco-friendly storm water design considerations, such as rain gardens and rain barrels, will be recommended if erosion or flooding issues are present.
- Plant and fungi ID assistance for unknown flora on your property.
- If requested, lawn reduction included in plan.
- Evaluate possible pests such as: invasive plant species that may need removed, problematic invasive insects like Japanese beetles, mosquito infestation, and mammals causing damage such as feral cats, deer, and rodents. Eco-friendly management methods to be included in garden plan. Note: we cannot remove mammals from the property but can recommend safe options for deterring them.
